Guess What...

I wrote poetry, or at least, I attempted to write poetry. I'll let you see it, and you can come to your own conclusion, ok?

Office Party

Certain uncertanties hinder
an othwise blissful exisence.
Like a child newly born,
I am dazed and confused,
possibly a little cranky.

I sit at a table wondering
which is the salad fork
and do we even need salad forks
as those around me laugh casually
in a monochrome harmony.

As oft is the case, I am puzzled
our movements like waves
unified we dance a dance of give and take
I can't help but wonder
must we dance at all?

like looking at the sun through icicles
after winter's first snow
my vision of you is distorted,
and your radiance is subdued,
and we all seem to be okay with that.

I understand,
honesty is the thorn on the rose of relationship
so we prune such nuisances
or better yet, use nuances
and smoke like elusiveness.

The masks speaks in thunderous guffaws
its words tasty sticky sweet like honey.
The eyes however
the eyes echo whispers.
They know only truth.

Not wanting to be rude,
I play the game.
Intoxicated on formality,
we sup on etiquette,
however I find my meal insubstantial.

unfulfilled,
perhaps even betrayed,
I vow not to be concerned with consumption,
shun assimilation,
and sup instead on servitude.

Now when I look into my own glass
I find a wine that tastes like bravado,
bitter-sweet.
The velvet red reflection
reminds me again of the rose.

Though I face it with trepidation
I find that one can not ascend the stem
without using the thorns as foundation
and I find that one can not stand as an island
without feeling alone

thusly I feel as the ocean I am compelled to adjoin,
free to move, but ultimately going nowhere

If you wonder wether or not I will be writing more. I honestly don't know, should I? Poetry has never been something I really cared about, however, I am always interested in acquiring new skills, so we'll see.
